You move freely around the factory, see how all processes are going, and can compare it to the information shown to you through the holograms. It’s a little fuzzy about how far along Microsoft has actually gotten toward solving these problems, but it’s actively working on them. The HoloLens 2 is only being sold to corporations, not to consumers. It’s designed for what Kipman calls “first-line workers,” people in auto shops, factory floors, operating rooms, and out in the field fixing stuff.

There are already use cases among existing enterprises that prove the efficiency of this technology by cutting the time and cost of certain business processes. Hololens puts holograms right into a physical environment, giving the user a new way to see the world. HoloLens is immersive, but it doesn’t block out the real world. It embeds holographic content and applications into physical surroundings to see, place and interact as if the holograms are part of the physical world. This mixed reality is enabling new ways to create, communicate, work and play. When you put the whole system together — the lasers, the mirrors, and the waveguide — you can get a brighter display with a wider field of view that doesn’t have to be precisely aimed into your eyes to work.
